Bhubaneswar: A dowry case has been filed against Odisha's Law Minister Raghunath Mohanty by his daughter-in-law Barsa Swony Choudhary. Barsa has filed the complaint against her husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law as well.
In her complaint at the Balasore police station, she has alleged that she was physically and mentally abused by her in-laws for dowry a few days after her marriage in June 2012. She has alleged that her in-laws demanded Rs 25 lakh and a Scorpio car from her family.
The minister has refuted the allegation saying it's a conspiracy against him. He, however, said he is ready to quit if asked to.
Speaking to CNN-IBN, he said, "Let the investigation be complete, people will know the truth. If the CM asks me to, I am willing to resign." The police are investigating the complaint.
Meanwhile, he met Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and sources say he is likely to resign.
