Baripada (Odisha): A Class VIII student of a residential high school in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district allegedly committed suicide in the hostel premises on Tuesday, police said. The body of the victim, identified as Rajendra Roul of residential high school at Raikama under Baisinga police station was found hanging from a wooden structure inside the hostel room, they said.

Though the exact cause of the suicide was yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that he took the extreme step apparently after being forcibly sent to the school by his parents, they said.

Rajendra had gone to his house in village Ambagadia in the district during the vacation and was unwilling to return to the school. However, his father Rabindra Roul had succeeded in persuading him to send to the school, they said. Investigation into the incident was continuing.
