London: Six years after her much acclaimed Bend It Like Bekcham and a year after she had her twins, UK-based filmmaker Gurinder Chadha is back with another British film, Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging.
The film is slated to release on July 25 and don't let the title mislead you. It is a comedy about the tough situations that a teenager faces - peer pressure, fashion statements and boyfriends!
"It's for teenagers of all ages. I think it's for teenagers now, teenagers in the future and all of those who have been teenagers," says the filmmaker.
The film, based on a series of books by author Louise Rennison, stars Georgia Groome as a 14-year-old growing up in Brighton with a dual agenda - to get a good looking boyfriend and to plan the perfect birthday bash. Many mishaps and misunderstandings later, it ends with a big 'fairy tale' party!
"It was really different and working with Gurinder was really fantastic," says Gerorgia Groome.
Adds actor Aaron Johnson, "I am very excited about the film. Everyone should see it."
But is teenage all as traumatic as in the film?
"I was a really good teenager - no boyfriends, a good Punjabi, Sikh girl," says Gurinder.
However, actor Alan Davies says, "I had a fair bit of snogging, and I had a cat, so yeah I can relate to it!"
The film promises to be another chick-flick and more perhaps for 13-years-olds than those who are 30 plus. It's about the trials and traumas of being a teenager, but in true Gurinder Chadha style, it will keep you entertained.
Fortunately Gurinder Chadha herself has a long way to go before her own kids turn teenagers, but with this film, she hopes to win many teenage fans.
