Saina Nehwal to miss China Masters

New Delhi: World No. 7 Saina Nehwal and other top badminton players form India won't be able to take part in the China Masters Super Series Badminton Tournament because Indian officials forget to send in her entry on time badminton tournament this year.

Badminton Association of India (BAI) officials reportedly forgot to e-mail her entry to the organisers on time.

"I thought that the person-in-charge will send the entry. But even he was busy and did not send the entry," said a disappointed Saina.

The last date for sending entries was August 11 but the Badminton Association of India sent Saina's name for the tournament after the last day.

So all the top Indian shuttlers including top men's singles player Chetan Anand and the mixed doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and V Diju won't be able to play in the tournament.

Chief National Badminton Coach P Gopichand was also dispoointed at Saina's non-entry to the China Masters Super Series tournament.

"We delayed in sending in the entries. We were a day late so though she will be playing for the Japan series, I don't think she will be playing in China. It was also because of the chicken pox that we didn't want to push her into it," he said.

However, the BAI denied any delay on their part instead claiming that it was Saina who applied late.

"If the player applies late, there's nothing that we can do. World Badminton Federation doesn't accept late applications," BAI President VK Verma said.

China Masters Super Series Badminton Tournament will be played from September 15-20.
