Nagpur: The oil adulteration mafia has attacked policemen yet again in Maharashtra. A kerosene seller along with his men attacked policemen during a search operation in Umred tehsil of Nagpur district of the state on Tuesday morning.

The incident happened at Rajurwadi, which is a stronghold of the Pardhi community, under the jurisdiction of Umred police station. A police team under Umred Deputy Superintendent of Police Sudhakar Paladurkar went to investigate following a tip off that a consignment of kerosene had been illegally brought in and was in the process of being adulterated at the residence of one Pannalal Rajput.

However, on reaching the area Rajput and his men attacked the police team injuring four police personnel including Palandurkar, Inspector Madhukar Gitey and two constables. They also damaged two police vehicles.

The injured policemen have been admitted to the Umred Hospital.

The incident took place despite the state government's claims of a crackdown on the oil mafia after additional district commissioner Yashwant Sonawane was burnt alive on January 25 about 10 kms from Malegaon in Maharashtra's Nashik district while he was investigating a case of oil adulteration.
