New Delhi: It's the Olympics, but of a different kind. While the ever-famed Russian gymnasts are training for the coming Games in 2008, it’s the livestock that’s making waves all across Moscow.

Welcome to the third annual Pig Olympics in the Russian capital Moscow where pigs ran, swam and even dribbled with football!

What’s more, coaches and zoo psychologists were specially employed to train and monitor the “athletes”.

Pigs of all sizes put their best trotter forward on Saturday at the third annual Pig Olympics in the Russian capital.

The skills they displayed included running, swimming and even playing football. Pig swimming was included in the Games for the first time this year.

Lena, an enthusiastic spectator, couldn’t contain herself. "Pigs are man's best friends. You cannot imagine how I love pigs. I could do anything for piglets. Such competitions are very important, not just for cats and dogs. Pig (competitions) are something new and unusual."

This unusual event was staged as part of the "Zoo Russia 2005" exhibition. It was organised by a group of fans from the Federation of Sportive Pig-breeding.

The Games began with only one competition- pig-running. The subsequent years saw the induction of pig-swimming and pig-ball. Organisers say they hope to introduce pig-boxing or pig-fighting next year.

Pork on the run it seems!
