Olympics: Basanta Bahadur Rana finishes 36th in men's 50km Race Walk

London: India's Basanta Bahadur Rana created a national record but that could only ensure him a 36th place in the men's 50km walk at the London Olympics here on Saturday.

Rana took three hours, 56 minutes and 48 seconds to complete the race.

Sergey Kirdyapkin of Russia strolled to the gold medal. Kirdyapkin, a two-time world champion, posted an Olympic record time of three hours, 35 minutes and 59 seconds.

Australia's Jared Tallent retained the silver medal he won in the Beijing Games, finishing a minute behind Kirdyapkin.

The bronze went to China's Si Tianfeng, the Asian champion, who came home in 3:37.16.
