Mumbai: Actor Om Puri is in the middle of a controversy spurred by his wife's biography of him where she talks about his remarkable struggle to success and even accuses him of affairs with maids.
"There is absolutely no intrusion. She hasn't written anything in the book which would embarrass me or which is awkward," says Om Puri.
Unlikey Hero Om Puri chronicles the life and times of the actor, but it's his sexual experiences with his maids that have been making news even before the book's release with some reports even claiming it to be the cause of apparent tiff between the Puris.
However, Om Puri sets the record straight. "When it appeared in the newspaper and channels started talking about it, then I felt really bad because my son called me up, he was crying and howling and said 'baba why did you do this etc'. I said, 'beta it was a mistake on my part and I apologise for it'. I wanted it (the book) to be absolutely honest," says he.
On her part, Nandita insists that this is no marketing gimmick but the story of a man born with a 'wooden spoon in his mouth'.
"I don't need to resort to any marketing gimmick. If Om has no objection and he's being very honest about his past life and his relationships and I, his wife, with a certain amount of detachment is not feeling embarrassed about writing it, then I don't know why people are passing judgments over whether we should be honest or not. This is Om's life and he has the full right to be public about it. If we are not bothered then what is bothering the media?" says Nandita Puri.
Published by Roli Books, Unlikely Hero Om Puri is expected to be launched by Amitabh Bachchan and Naseeruddin Shah in Mumbai on November 23.
