Oman: Al Arouba club edged past India's Salgaocar SC with a narrow 1-0 win in a Group D AFC Cup encounter at Al Seeb Sports Stadium in Muscat here on Wednesday evening.
Juma Darwish scored the only goal of the match but it wasn't enough to take his side to top the group as Uzbekistan's Neftchi edged ahead on goal difference after defeating Al Wehdat of Jordan 2-1.
Salgaocar were without first choice goalkeeper Karanjit Singh, who is with the national team at the Challenge Cup in Nepal, besides Rocus Lamare and Francis Fernandes.
Edeh Chidi had the only real chance for the visiting side just around 17 minutes but the Nigerian was only able to send his shot wide of the target.
With chances at a premium for both sides, Darwish netted the goal seven minutes after the hour mark after Salgaocar goalkeeper Vinay Singh could only parry Eid Al Farsi's strike.
Seven minutes before the final whistle, Al Arouba's Brazilian captain could have made it 2-0 after Luciano Sobrosa handled the ball in the Salgaocar box, but Emerson Dantas Silva struck the post from the resultant spot-kick.
