Jammu: The ruling National Conference (NC) has said that Omar Abdullah would remain Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir till 2014. "Till 2014, Omar will remain the Chief Minister and will continue to serve you (people)," Political Advisor to the CM Davinder Singh Rana told a public meeting at Nagrota on the outskirts of Jammu city.

Congress workers had raked up the issue of rotational Chief Ministership during their meeting with Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi when he visited the state.

In the past, several Congress leaders, including JKPCC head Saif-uddin-Soz, had also issued statements on the issue. Lashing out at the critics of the Omar government, Rana said the Omar government had taken taken a number of steps regarding development of the state.

“They ask what the Omar government has done in the past three years? The fact is that it has set up 33 degree colleges, unveiled 22 projects and metalled 8334 kms of road," he said.

The biggest achievement of the government was that it had conducted Panchayat elections in the state, Rana said.

"When we began the process of Panchayat polls, some started the propaganda that it will result in bloodshed and violence. But, the people came out and voted and peaceful polls were held," the NC leader said.
