New Delhi: One of the accused in the rape case of a minor girl in Kannauj district of Uttar Pradesh was arrested on Sunday. The accused raped and then blinded the girl when she tried to resist their assault on her.

The incident occurred on Saturday night and a case had been registered against the two men who were identified as Kuldeep and Niraj.

The victim was admitted to a hospital where she said that the two men stabbed her when she resisted rape and she felt like she was going to die.

Kannauj SP Rajendra Singh said, "The victim was injured in the eye and the matter had to be taken seriously. Officials weren't even told that the incident had occurred, which is why they have been suspended. The concerned official at the police station took the matter very lightly."

"The main accused is Kuldeep Unranjan, who lives close to the victim's village. He is charged for rape and murder attempt and will be arrested soon," he added.
