One in four Indians die of heart diseases: Report

Mumbai: Recent data reveals that around five million Indians suffer from heart problems. Huge amount of stress, lack of exercise and bad eating habits are some of the reasons doctors in India say almost half of their cardiac patients are well below the age of 40.

Pramod, 23, a heart patient said that he never saw any warning signs.

"I was returning home from a party when suddenly was it was a strange feeling that I felt that night. I was perspiring a lot, and when I went to sleep I was feeling uncomfortable and even my chest was paining and there was lot of vomiting going on," said Pramod.

Pramod dismissed it as indigestion, a classic mistake. When he finally went to the hospital his arteries had a clot caused by a combination of factors like smoking, stress and low level of vitamin B12. If that sounds like you then doctors are warning you to 'watch out'.

Head of Preventive Cardiology Asian Heart Institute Dr Ashish Contractor said, "I could previously climb four floors and if I am unable to climb two right now I have a problem because what I could do previously I am not able to do right now. It's not symptoms alone it's the change in symptoms that are more important."

Since the attack, Pramod has learnt to take things easy.

"After the heartattack, life changed considerably. Everything became in a time-table - having regular meals, proper diet, regular exercise," said Pramod.
