New Delhi: When the big screen does not offer much on a Friday, the big stage or the world's biggest open air theatre has a lot in its platter.
52-year-old Gopal Sahoo loves playing Maharaja Kansha, a Maharaja who lords over Bargarh in Orissa for eleven days when the most popular harvest festival of this region, ‘Dhanujatra’ is celebrated.
It is not just such a tradition that makes this festival unique. Also unique is this open-air theatre, which is considered the biggest in the world. Nearly one thousand artists enact the play in this vast five square kilometer open-air theatre.
"I will kill Krishna and will rule over the world,” says Gopal Sahoo, enacting Maharaj Kansh.
A tourist, Arvind Das says that one has to see the play in the biggest theatre to believe and experience the joy. “No where else one can get this experience. I have come with my entire family to enjoy it,” adds he.
"Every year we desperately wait for this festival to happen so that we can enjoy,” says Anjana Mahapatra, resident, Bargarh.
