New Delhi: Former Orissa's Director General of Police (Home Guard) DGP, B B Mahanti, has been suspended from service by the Orissa government.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik himself stepped in after the Rajasthan Police served B B Mahanti a non-bailable arrest.
The Superintendent of Police in Cuttack, Soumendra Priyadarshi, has confirmed that he has received a warrant for the arrest of Mahanti.
"I received the endorsement letters around 1 pm on Friday from the District Magistrate. There were two non bailable warrants. We are taking all steps to execute the warrants," he said.
The warrants have not yet been executed for B B Mahanti is absconding and could not be located either at his residence or his office, but the Orissa Police say that the search for him is on.
He had applied for seven days medical leave with permission to leave the station but the application was rejected.
Earlier this week a Jaipur court had rejected Mahanti's plea to convert his non-bailable warrant into a bailable one.
The non-bailable warrant was issued against Mahanti for obstructing the arrest of his son Biti, who was convicted and sentenced to seven years in jail for the rape of a German tourist, but later jumped parole from a Rajasthan jail.
