New Delhi: Its been over 16 hours IAS officer RV Krishnan was taken into captivity by Maoists. Krishnan, who dared to go into Maoists stronghold without any security. Accompanying him were three more officers, all of whom are now in custody.
Krishna's uncle, Kutumbh Rao said, "As a family member, we are appealing to the Maoists to release him without any harm."
Maoists are asking for an immediate suspension of operation greenhunt and release of tribals in jails. The state government has now suspended operation greenhunt. Its even open to the negotiations.
Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, "We are evaluating the situation and monitoring the situation very closely. I appeal to the Maoists to release the young officer."
RV Krishna and three more officers were on their way back from Papernetla village after inspecting a rural electrification programme.
The district collector was on a motorcycle and without security. On their way back, all four were abducted by a group of Armed Maoists.
They were first taken to village Janatai, and held there for one hour.
Senior Maoist leaders came to Janatai and took them to an undisclosed destination. The Maoists released two officers with a note of their demands.
For the first time this has happened in Orissa. Krishnan was posted in Kandhamal and then in Malkangiri. He had made an effort to distribute land rights to alienated tribals. Remember the other officer in Maoist custody is also a tribal.
