Bhubaneswar: After Naxal attack on last Friday, a massive counter attack by security forces is still on in Orissa. At least 20 Naxals have been killed and almost half the weapons looted from the Nayagarh armoury have been recovered. However, the police is paying a heavy price as well.

"It is high time we should teach the Naxals a lesson once and for all. These Naxals are nothing. We can finish them all if our police force strongly decides to eliminate them. I am a police officer, I am ready to finish them," says bother of the policeman killed, Nirmal Satpathy.

As the body of a security officer is brought home in Orissa, it seems that the security forces are paying a heavy price for tracking the elusive Naxals into the jungles of Kandhamal, Ganjam and Nayagarh districts for daring to avenge Friday's killing of 14 policemen.

Naxals are being pushed deeper into the jungles as the security forces close in on them on foot and with air support.

"This is for sure that the operation will continue till we accomplish our job and this will be done soon," says Home Secretary, Orissa, Tarun Kanti Mishra.

Officials are already claiming some success. At least 20 Naxals are said to have died in the counter offensive. Nearly 400 arms looted from the Nayagarh armoury also have been recovered and almost half of it burnt by the fleeing ultras.

Following the struggle and violent conbat, many villagers caught in the operation zone have fled their homes to safety. No one wants to be caught in this bitter war.

In the past in Orissa, Naxals had killed several policemen. However, never before the killings had been so brutal. It seems the Naxals want to send a very harsh message to the Orissa police. However, many Orissa police personnel are in favour of paying back in the same coin.
