Orissa: still no trace of abducted collector

New Delhi: It's been over 24 hours since suspected Naxals abducted IAS officer RV Krishna in Orissa's Malkangiri district.

He has not been released even after the state govt agreed to the Naxals' demand of suspending Operation Greenhunt.

The State Police is now turning to NGOs and the public to negotiate with the Naxals.

On Thursday, hundreds of tribals and other sections of society held peace processions across the state demanding district collector Krishna's releasee.

Locals also conducted prayers for the well being of the abducted officers. N

ormal life has been afftected in the tribal-dominated and Maoist-hit district as Schools, colleges, shops and offices remain closed.

"It is most unfortunate that the collector has been abducted. Afterall, he had gone there only on official business not personal work," said Padnanav Sethy, Additional District Magistrate, Rayagada district.
