New Delhi: Two newborn babies have died at a hospital in Puri, Orissa within hours of each other after being administered an antibiotic injection called Ceftalin.

The babies developed breathing problem soon after they were administered the shots.

The mother claims she observed her baby turn blue within five minutes of being given the shot.

Alarmed at the tragic incident, the chief medical officer called the district drug inspector of Puri, and the shop from where the injections were bought was searched. But no spurious samples were found.

Parents of other babies at the Puri hospital are now panicking and planning to shift their patients to private hospitals.

Speaking about the incident chief district medical officer Dr Trilochana Baral said, “The drug inspector is searching the source of the distribution of such injections and after getting samples they would be sent to laboratory for test. However we in the hospital had given the babies the best possible treatment."
