It is Oscar time, when the best films of the year vie for the top awards. On Sunday, some of the biggest names in Hollywood - actors, directors, screenwriters and technicians - will walk the red carpet with their fingers crossed. Unlike previous years, this time no clear frontrunner has emerged.

Sure the buzz is loudest around No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood, but can you confidently put your money on your top choices?

Here are my predictions on who will win Oscar's top four trophies.

Best Actress

As far as I'm concerned, the competition's really between the youngest and the oldest nominee in this category -- namely Ellen Page and Julie Christie. Personally I'd like to see Ellen Page win for Juno, it's a remarkable performance that's very easy to undermine because it seems so simple. But it's really not -- it's never easy to play smarter than one's age without coming off as looking precocious, and Ellen Page did such a fine job. On the other hand you've got Julie Christie, a veteran, a previous Oscar-winner, playing a person suffering from Alzheimer's, and once again it's a magnificent performance. In the end, I suspect the Academy's going to choose the heavyweight over the young gun. Unless they decide to surprise us completely and go with French actress Marion Cotillard for her stunning performance in La Vie en Rose, but that's a long shot, in my opinion.

Who should win: Ellen Page for Juno

Who will win: Julie Christie for Away From Her

Best Actor

This is the one category I think I can predict without any fear or suspicion. It's Daniel Day-Lewis all the way, and why shouldn't it be? His performance in There Will Be Blood is one of those big, showy performances complete with physical transformation. Plus Daniel Day-Lewis is a highly respected actor, he's won an Oscar before, and there's a good chance this could be the only major award the film will take. Johnny Depp would be my second choice, it's an admirable performance, the Academy loves to honour actors who do their own singing, and he's been nominated twice before but never won. I still think there's going to be no surprise when they open the envelope on Sunday.

Best Director

Because they've directed a fantastic film and because they've been in line for an Oscar for many years now, I think the Academy will finally raise a toast to Joel and Ethan Coen. They're the veterans in a category filled with newcomers and outsiders, and indeed No Country For Old Men was one of the best reviewed films of the year. I don't think they can be cheated out of the award this time, even though Julian Schnabel delivered such a heart-wrenching film in The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, and even though Paul Thomas Anderson switched gears from his usual dark comedies to give us such an impressive dark, dramatic film in There Will Be Blood. It's the Coens all the way.

Best Picture

For me, there was no better film than Juno - it was smart, it was funny, it was dark in parts, and it was hopeful in the end. Juno is this year's Little Miss Sunshine, only smarter. It was superbly written and will no doubt win Best Original Screenplay for Diablo Cody, but sadly I doubt it will take Best Picture. That honour, I predict will go to No Country For Old Men, a bleak and taut film indeed, and probably deserving of the award. Atonement? Too overrated. Michael Clayton? No way, doesn't have the sweep. The only serious contender in this category, I believe, is There Will Be Blood, but does the Academy have the stomach for a film so dark? I think not. My money's on No Country.

Who should win: Juno

Who will win: No Country For Old Men
