New Delhi: Following the killing of engineer Suryanarayana in Afghanistan, Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran said the Government is "appalled by the dastardly act committed by the Taliban."

Saran said Suryanarayana was brutally murdered and the Taliban had premeditated it.

Arrangements were being made to bring his body back to India as soon as possible, he added.

Saran said that the Government was appalled at this inhuman act. "Government and the people would never bow to such acts of terrorism and continue to help war-torn Afghanistan in its reconstruction," he added.

The Government has pledged its support to the aggrieved family. President A P J Abdul Kalam has also assured the family of all assistance, Kalam's Press Secretary S M Khan said.

Strengthening India’s commitment to improve ties between the two countries, Saran said, "India is still committed to working in Afghanistan. Taliban is still operative in Pakistan and Afghanistan border. International community should act together including, India and Pakistan to fight against them."
