Islamabad: More than 100 militants have voluntarily surrendered to the security forces in northwest Pakistan, the army said in a statement Tuesday.

The Pakistan Army said 105 militants voluntarily surrendered in the 24 hours to Tuesday evening in the Swat region of North West Frontier Province (NWFP).

Nineteen other militants were captured in the Swat and Malakand regions of NWFP, the Inter Services Public Relations said.

Two more militants were killed in a shootout and a large quantity of weapons was also recovered, it said.

Pakistani security forces have killed at least 1,700 militants since they launched their military offensives against the Taliban in April in northwestern part of the country.
