Over 30 pc OBC quota seats in DU vacant

New Delhi: Deepshikha scored 89 per cent in her Class 12 Board exams, but she is yet to get admission in a college of her choice as she hasn't qualified even for the fourth cut-off list brought out by the Delhi University.

But now students like her get a shot at a DU seat. The 18 per cent seats set aside for OBC students are yet to be filled and the University has now decided to throw the vacant seats open for general category students.

Delhi University Joint Dean, Seema Parihar says, "Like last year, we have 30 to 40 per cent of seats falling vacant this year too. We will now make these seats available to the general category."

It's not a surprise then that this decision is finding favour among students who want to book a seat with Delhi University.

Colleges say the seats don't fill up because even after the cut-off relaxation, many OBC quota students still don't make the cut.

Ramjas College Principal, Dr Ragendra Prasad says, "We started with 2 to 3 per cent but kept reducing the cut-offs, but still all the seats did not fil up."

Colleges are likely to announce allotment of OBC seats to the general category by August 15, but till then, options for many like Deepshika remain limited.
