Overseas employment agency in Goa

Panaji: The Goa government would have its own overseas employment agency by next month to save people belonging to the state seeking employment abroad from being exploited by agents, NRI Commissioner Eduardo Faleiro said.

Faleiro, former Union External Affairs Minister, said that the state government-run agency will be armed with adequate data on Goan manpower availability and requirements abroad.

"The agency will get approval by August, this year," Faleiro said adding, "I will facilitate overseas employment of unskilled as well as skilled technical and professional manpower."

"It will save our emigrants from exploitation by unscrupulous recruiting agents and foreign employers," he added.

After establishing the agency, the NRI Commissionerate will write to the ambassadors abroad so that Indian embassies intimate foreign employers to contact agency in case of any requirement of manpower.

Faleiro also said that the Central government has agreed to decentralise the power to authenticate university and college degree for employment abroad.

"People now have to go to Delhi to get the authentication from the Union Human Resource Development. Once the Goa government gets the authentication power, they would be saved from making the Delhi visit," Faleiro added.
