New Delhi: Karnataka BJP MLA Raghupathi Bhat's wife Padmapriya, who allegedly committed suicide in Delhi on Sunday, led a normal marital life according to her friends. But something obviously wasn't right as her husband now blames a close friend, Atul, for Padmapriya’s death.
On Sunday night, the 33-year-old was found dead in a flat in Delhi’s Dwarka area.
Padmapriya had been missing from her home in Udupi for the last five days. Even as the police had launched a massive manhunt to locate her, speculation was rife that she had been kidnapped by Naxals.
But her husband, who is taking back Padmapriya’s body to Bangalore for the cremation, insists that an old associate is behind his wife’s suicide.
"She was not the sort to take such a rash step. I still love her. I don’t know why this happened with her," Bhat said.
Bhat, who is considered to be a rising star in the two-week-old Karnataka government, also dismissed rumours that there was any trouble in his marriage.
In fact such was the pressure on the state government to locate Padmapriya that the Home Minister Dr V S Acharya was himself supervising the case.
“In spite of our best efforts we could not save her. Our police team came to Delhi and went to Dwarka with the Delhi Police,” Acharya said.
But the big question still remains unanswered, why did Padmapriya commit suicide? Was it because of speculations regarding her relationship with Atul or was she shamed into taking her life after her whereabouts were detected?
