New Delhi: India's Leander Paes got off to a winning start to the 2007 season along with doubles partner Martin Damn of Czech Republic, when they beat Morocco's Younes El Anaoui and Sultan Khalfan of Qatar in the first round of the Qatar Open in Doha.
The top seed Indo-Czech pair ran over their unseeded wild card opponents 6-2, 6-1 on Tuesday in the $1 million event.
The US Open champions go on to play the winner of Belgian pair Christophe Rochus and Kritof Vliegen and Spain's Nicholas Almagro and Alberto Martin in the second round.
