Pak admits 26/11 attackers could be Pakistanis

CNN-IBN

Islamabad: Pakistan has finally come to admitting the possibility that Mumbai's attackers could be hailing from Pakistan.

The comment came from none other than Pakistan's National Security Advisor (NSA) Mahmud Ali Durrani.

Durrani said, “Could be, I am not saying more than that because we don’t have any proof, I hate to say this we don’t have proof.”

Meanwhile, Indian foreign minister Pranab Murkerjee said, “We are ready to give evidence like in the past.”

In the line of that evidence, Pakistan's NSA confirmed to CNN-IBN that Kasab’s, the lone captive of the Mumbai attack, confession letter has been received and Islamabad is examining it.

“We have got that letter, I have seen that letter. We have been provided with some information, we are working on it. We are trying to investigate on our own. We are looking at what you have given us and trying to connect the dots,” added Durrani.

Durrani also confirmed to CNN-IBN that there is no troop mobilisation on the borders; however, the Pakistani army is on high alert.

“I am going to say that we are not on high alert, we have not mobilised. Yes some element of our army will be on alert because the worry is probably to protect ourselves,” said Durrani.

The world will now be watching closely whether Pakistan is finally coming out of the denial mode or some more U-turns are in store.
