Pak detains 13 Indian fishermen

Press Trust Of India

Islamabad: Thirteen Indian fishermen have been apprehended and their two fishing boats seized by Pakistani authorities allegedly for illegally fishing in the country's territorial waters.

The Maritime Security Agency apprehended the two boats last evening when the fishermen were found "illegally" fishing inside Pakistan's exclusive economic zone (EEZ), an official statement said on Saturday.

Indian fishermen had been warned time and again not to indulge in illegal fishing but they repeatedly entered Pakistan's EEZ to "benefit from rich fish resources at the mouth of the Indus delta," the statement claimed.

The Indian fishermen have been handed over to the docks police station in Karachi for further legal action.

India and Pakistan arrest hundreds of fishermen every year for illegally fishing in each others territorial waters.

The two countries have now initiated steps for the speedy release of the detained fishermen.
