New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee says India is ready to share any information and evidence with Pakistan once investigations into the Mumbai terror attack are over. Speaking to Karan Thapar on CNN-IBN show Devil's Advocate, Mukherjee said that India will provide whatever information is necessary.
Pranab Mukherjee: Whatever evidences we had we can make available, but in this case you know we are still investigating. We have not come to any conclusions. Therefore at this juncture it might perhaps be premature to share the evidences.
Karan Thapar: But at the right time you are prepared to do so?
Pranab Mukherjee: We have shared the evidences in the past. The point which I am repeating is that it has not been followed up and taken to its logical conclusion.
Karan Thapar: In the past they have in a sense not taken it further, but you are also saying that when you reach conclusions you will be able to share evidence this time around.
Pranab Mukherjee: If its needed surely I will like to share it with them.
He also had strong words on the extradition of wanted criminals like Maulana Masood Azhar and wanted to know why the Pakistan government was reluctant to hand him over.
Pranab Mukherjee: What I have told them - there are two categories of people involved. Some people who have committed crimes in India - they have left India and taken shelter in Pakistan, like Dawood (Ibrahim). We are asking the Pakistan authority to hand over persons like these to Indian authorities so that they can be tried as per Indian laws. There are persons who are Pakistani citizens who are indulging in terrorist activities let them be arrested, let them be tried as per Pakistani laws.
"One person I am particularly mentioning - that is Masood Azhar, he was in Indian custody. We had to handover to the hijackers of the Indian (Indian Airlines IC 814) plane in Kandhahar. He is available in Pakistan more than often, he appears in the television screen in Pakistan, so why Pakistan government cannot handover that man to us and what is the point of keeping him in house arrest," said Mukherjee.
