New Delhi: More criticism has come for Pakistan for not doing enough in the 26/11 investigations. Indian Home Mininster P Chidambaram has told CNN-IBN that Islamabad is just proving to the world that it's not serious about prosecuting 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed or any of the other perpetrators. Here are excerpts from an exclusive interview.
CNN-IBN: As far as Hurriyat is concerned, do you think we should be talking to them at all and if we do, when should we talk to them?
Chidambaram: Talks will happen with the Hurriyat at a quiet place, away from the media glare. There will be dialogue with all the sections of a political opinion. We will start but the dialogue must be a quiet one.
Pakistan is not serious about prosecuting Hafiz Saeed. They are sending out a message that they are not serious about bringing perpetrators of 26/11 to justice.
I have never accepted the statements coming from Pakistan. Even when they first said that Hafiz Saeed is placed under arrest, I questioned it. He was never placed under arrest.
Meanwhile, reports have claimed that the operational chief of the militant outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad, Illyas Kashmiri is alive. He was reported killed in a US drone strike in Taliban-controlled North Waziristan last month, but a Pakistani journalist claims to have interviewed him recently.
The interview is being published on the Internet journal Asia Times.
Kashmiri is linked to last weekend's attack on the Pakistani Army's General Headquarters. The sole surviving attacker Aqeel alias Dr Usman had served under Kashmiri.
US Intelligence says Kashmiri is Operations Chief of the brigade, which brings together the Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami, Laskhar-e-Jhangvi, Lashkar-e-Taiba and the Jaish-e-Mohammed under one al-Qaeda umbrella. It is often referred to as al-Qaeda's shadow army.
