Islamabad: Pakistani political parties, including the Jamaat-e-Islami, on Monday rallied in support of the banned Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JeD).
They want the ban imposed on the group by the UN Security Council to be lifted and the negotiations going on with India to be ended.
The parties claimed the sanctions were imposed by the world body under pressure from the US and India. They also alleged the UN acted with “undue and unusual haste” and made no attempt to find out the Jamaat's point of view.
At a meeting held in Lahore, the parties adopted a resolution that condemned the steps taken by the UN against the Jamaat and reminded the world that its resolutions on the Kashmir issue were “pending implementation for the last 60 years”.
“India should be declared an anti-Pakistan state and all relations with it should be severed, and the drama of so-called peace process and negotiations ended,” the resolution said.
Calling for India to “be forced” to honour the resolutions on Kashmir, the parties said that they believed that “it is not possible to dream of peace in the region without a solution of the fundamental issue of Kashmir”.
The Pakistan government recently launched a crackdown on the Jamaat after the UN Security Council declared it a front for the Lashker-e-Taiba terror group in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks.
The UN Security Council also listed four LeT leaders, including its founder Hafiz Mohammed Saeed, as terrorists subject to sanctions.
