New Delhi: India is not convinced about Pakistan's denial of support to the Taliban.
In the first official reaction to the Taliban claim that Pakistan's intelligence agency Inter State Intelligence (ISI) was responsible for the abduction and the subsequent assassination of Afghanistan-based Indian engineer Suryanarayana, Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma said the needle of suspicion points to Pakistan.
Sharma said Pakistan needs to do more to end its covert support to the Taliban in Afghanistan.
"We have throughout said the Taliban is receiving support from across the border, it is important that all those who profess their opposition to terrorim, oppose any kind of sustenance to them," Sharma said.
Anand Sharma also rejected the charge that the UPA government was soft on terror.
He accused the BJP-led Opposition of cheap political point scoring and said India was mobilising support for a comprehensive convention on terrorism at the United Nations.
"We can't make terror attack issue of partisan political agenda. We have seen in the past when places of religious signifance, national symbols have been attacked," he said.
India has asked for a clarification from the Pakistan regime on the Taliban claim and the Indian mission in Islamabad is also likely to the matter with the Pakistan government.
