New Delhi: There’s pressure's on the Pakistani authorities to repeal the Lahore High Court's decision to release Jammat-ud-Dawa chief and 26/11 accused Hafiz Saeed.
It’s been barely three days since that controversial decision was enacted by Pakistan. The Pak Attorney General confirmed to CNN-IBN that an appeal would be made against the court’s decision as criticism has been pouring in internationally.
So now the Pakistani government appears to have done a rethink on Lashkar chief Hafiz Saeed.
The Foreign Office in Islamabad confirmed that the Punjab provincial government is filing an appeal against his release.
It's not clear though what new evidence will be presented to the court. India’s External Affairs Minister S M Krishna India has asked for concrete steps to be taken by Pakistan.
US Special Envoy Richard Holbrooke privately indicated he was disturbed but left it to the US State Department to drive the point home.
Criticism has also come from the Pakistani media about the legal system that worked to Hafiz Saeed's advantage.
The implications are that the foundations of Islamabad's campaign against terror were being undermined from within.
