Jammu While India celebrates Independence Day, there has been disturbing news from across the border.
Firing was reported from the Pakistan side of the international border between India and Pakistan on the R S Pura sector of Jammu.
The firing occurred around 0230 IST near the Abdullian post.
According to Army sources, four rounds were fired from the Pakistani side. However no casualties have been reported.
The Indian defence authorities have not yet clarified if it was a case of breach of the Ceasefire violation by Pakistan, yet again. However, an inquiry will be conducted.
“Nothing has been targeted nor has anything been damaged. Nobody has been injured. Nothing has come to our post as per the information available with us as of today. Whether the firing was so as to target us or had they fired stuff on their side and whether it reached unintentionally to our side or otherwise, are things that the BSF can ascertain and tell you,” said Major General D I Chaudhry of the GOC, Tiger Division.
There have been a number of ceasefire violations by Pakistan in the areas of Jammu and Kashmir bordering Pakistan, since January this year.
The Poonch sector has seen the maximum cross-border firing.
Earlier on July 28, 12 Pakistani soldiers had crossed over the LoC at Nowgam and entered Indian territory to confront an Indian post in Khayam area, killing an Indian soldier there.
