Pakistani living in India for 38 years arrested

Jaipur: An 84-year-old man was arrested in Rajasthan's Sikar district, 38 years after he illegally came to India from Pakistan and settled down under a disguise, police said on Tuesday.

The man, identified as Ummed Khan, got married, acquired all identification documents including a passport and bought agriculture land to pose as a farmer, they added.

Khan was detained on Monday evening from his house in Ramgarh Sekhawati area, some 150 km from Jaipur.

The officer said that the Pakistani man secured all the documents to pose himself as an Indian.

"We learnt that Khan was into suspicious activities and bringing communal disharmony in the area. He was questioned. It came up that he was illegally staying in India for 38 years," a police officer told IANS.

He had come to visit his brother, Haqam Ali, in 1954 and 1956.

On the second trip, he disappeared. However, he was traced by police in 1971. He was convicted and deported to Pakistan in 1974 after he completed his sentance.

But it seems he returned to India a couple of years later and settled down in Ramgarh Shekhawati.

The officer said that Khan secured all the documents to pose himself as an Indian. These included a passport, a ration card, a voter ID card and a driving license. He also opened a bank account.

"He bought agriculture land and worked as farmer," the officer added.
