Mumbai: Filmmaker Sudipto Chattopadhyaya’s Pankh starring Bipasha Basu and debutant Maradona Rebello is making news, be it for its scene featuring two men locking their lips or its story.
Pankh focuses on the trials and tribulations of an actor, who as a child was forced by his parents to dress up as a girl for film roles.
“My story is inspired by a very famous child star of the 60s. And who is a celebrated actress today and she used to be cross dressed as a boy and as a man,” says Chattopadhyaya.
And this is what Maradona has to say about kissing another man onscreen.
“Sudipto has told me about this..he kept on telling me that you are going to be doing this and on the final day of the shoot we did it and we were like ok it wasn’t that bad. It is not a romantic kiss, it is a forced kiss in a drunken state,” says the actor.
Also starring Mahesh Manjrekar and Lillete Dubey, Pankh has the glamorous world of the Bollywood as it backdrop. But the film's director wants his viewers to look beyond.
“The whole underbelly of Bollywood which is often not revealed, Bollywood is often shown glamorous. This states all the things that are politically incorrect, it takes a harsh look at the underbelly of Hindi cinema,” says Chattopadhyaya.
