Jammu: National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah played the proud father and sang a song when his son, Omar Abdullah, was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.
“Papa kahte hain achha kaam karega; logon ki mushkil door karega; logon ko aagey le jaayega; Kaam mushkil hai zaroor; irada nek hai to phir sab kuchh ho jayega, ” said Farooq when he was asked about Omar’s appointment. (Papa wishes the son will do well, he will mitigate peoples' problems. The job is difficult but if the intention is good, everything will be done successfully).
Farooq, a former chief minister, was singing his modified version of a song from the 1988 Hindi movie Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak.
Former chief minister Farooq Abdullah was a doting father today and could not help hum a lilting tune from a popular Aamir Khan film to sing praise of his son Omar Abdullah after he became the new chief minister.
Farooq, a guest at Omar’s swearing-in ceremony, said he was confident that his son would meet the expectations of the state’s people. "I told my wife that it is the most precious moment of our life to see our son becoming the youngest Chief Minister in the state's history" said Farooq.
"Every parent feels proud to see their children achieving some name and fame in the society and the same applies to us also."
