Paradise turns hell for Surat kids

Surat: It was supposed to be a fun-filled, summer trip to Jammu and Kashmir.

But one stroke of misfortune wiped the smiles off Gujarat-based Ribinwala family - one of the many tourists onboard the bus that was attacked by terrorists in Srinagar on Thursday.

Theirs was one of the several families from Surat that boarded the Joy and Joy travel agency bus on May 22.

The trip however, was cut short on Thursday evening when terrorists hurled a grenade at their bus in at Batapora locality, 12 km from Srinagar.

The family was returning from the picturesque tourist spot of Sonamarg, 96 kms from Srinagar, when the terrorists struck.

Out of the 17 members onboard, Eight-year-old Robin, and his 15-year-old cousin Khushboo succumbed to the injuries.

As the news reached Surat, relatives made frantic calls to find about their family members, to no avail.

"We have not received any phone calls and there has been no contact. We have come to know all about it only from the TV. My brother called me and he told me that their condition is serious," Victim's uncle, Kalped Ribinwala said.

After the attack, tour operators have started questioning the timing of the second Kashmir roundtable which ended on Thursday.

With 10 major terror attacks in last 72 hours, the government needs to do a lot of damage control before tourists make a beeline to the paradise on earth.
