Parallel films are not needed: Chitrangada

After winning over critics and audiences with her performances in Hazaaron Khwahishen Aisi and Kal, actress Chitrangada Singh is set to make a comeback to the big screen.

Suchetna Ray: Have you got used to being called the new-age Smita Patil?

Chitrangada Singh: I don’t think I have a choice. I think it’s a huge compliment and comes with a lot of responsibilities. I am just two films old and need time. I need to be given chances to prove myself. I am very thankful they call me new-age Smita Patil but it’s too heavy on my shoulders.

Suchetna Ray: You are coming back after almost three years. Why did you choose Onir’s Sorry Bhai?

Chitrangada Singh: Sorry Bhai is a funny film. It’s different from the serious films like Hazaaron Khwahishein Aisi and Kal. This is a romantic, funny film.

Suchetna Ray: Phir Devdas brings Sudhir Mishra and you back together. Was it the opportunity to work with Sudhir Mishra or was it the role?

Chitrangada Singh: Firstly., it was a Sudhir Mishra film - which convinced me 90 per cent - and then, playing Chandramukhi convinced me another 10 per cent.

Suchetna Ray: Do you want to be associated with parallel films or do you want to be associated with typical Bollywood potboilers?

Chitrangada Singh: I just see myself associated with good cinema. The kind of sensibility that’s coming through commercial cinema now, I don’t think you need parallel cinema anymore.
