Subedar Major (Honorary Captain) Bana Singh was awarded the PVC for his heroism in the recapturing of a post from the Pakistan Army on June 23, 1987, in the Siachen Glacier (Jammu and Kashmir). He was a Naib Subedar at the time of the military operation.
The post was named after him as Bana Post and now he is his son's idol as the 18-year old, Rajinder Singh, gets ready to defend India's border.
And Subedar Major (Honorary Captain) Bana Singh, PVC, was present at his son's passing out parade at JAKLI Regimental Centre on the outskirts of Srinagar.
Now, his son, a new recruit with the Indian Army wants to scale the same heights.
"Every one looks at daddy for inspiration. I want to go to daddy's post and that is why I joined the army," a proud Rajinder says.
Rajinder has been inducted in the same battalion, the 8th Battalion of the JAKLI Regiment in which his father had served for decades.
"If you serve the nation with aan, baan and shaan (honour, pride and distinction), you have made the cut. I have told him to join the army and serve with honesty and dedication," Subedar Major (Honorary Captain) Bana Singh, PVC, says.
He is a living legend and will be for soldiers of all generations and now he has passed on the baton to his son. And just like father, the son too wants to climb the heights of valour.
