New Delhi: He tries to open his eyes but closes them instantly, his small fingers curl into a loose fist and his feet still have traces of skin that must have covered his small body inside his mother's womb.

Every time you look at the 21-day-old infant, your heart goes out to him. But this little baby boy was abandoned by his parents at the Life Line Heath Care hospital in Gurgaon.

The parents did this cruel thing after they discovered that he was suffering from a heart ailment that may require costly treatment.

Says a nurse at the hospital, Shashikala, "We told them that that there was some problem with the baby's heart and after that they just disappeared."

The hospital authorities panicked when they didn't hear from the infant's family for more than a week.

Says CEO, Life Line Heath Care, Dr Anish Dhar, "We registered an FIR against the baby's father on Monday."

After the hospital authorities decided to go public with the plight of the infant, they reportedly received a phone call from the infant's father Rajesh Kumar Ranjan, promising to pick up the baby by Wednesday evening.

Even as hospital authorities wait for the parents of this nameless premature baby, one wonders what kind of future awaits him in the outside world.

But there is a ray of hope. Delhi's Apollo Hospital has come to the infant's aid.

Says Apollo's Pediatric Cardiologist, Dr Vinod Kohli, "We have offered to operate on the child free of cost as we have the required facilities."
