New Delhi: An Army major has donated his one and a half year old son's kidneys and eyes after the child died in a tragic accident.

The child's kidneys have already helped save a 32-year-old man's life. The incident brings to focus the significance of organ donations in the country.

Meet Major Sidharth Malik and his wife Nidhi – they are yet to over come the trauma.

It's been just a few days since their one-and-a-half-year-old son Showrya died after falling from the balcony of their home in Hyderabad.

The family is devastated at the loss of their only child, but that hasn’t stopped this couple from taking a courageous decision. They have donated Showrya's kidney and eyes.

Showrya's mother Nidhi says, “He was basically a very happy baby. He gave lot of happiness to all of us for whatever time he was here with us. We wanted to give his death a meaning.”

Showrya's father Major Siddharth Malik says, ”Whoever had to go has gone but we realized it was important.”

Showrya could be the youngest ever organ donor in the country. His kidneys were donated to a 32-year-old man, battling renal failure at the Krishna Institute of medical Sciences.

It’s a ray of hope for the patient who remains unaware of the identity of this young donor.

Showrya's eyes have been donated to the L V Prasad eye bank.

Medical miracles may happen but doctors at the Krishna Institute believe that the Maliks, despite their emotional trauma and loss, displayed courage that's truly unparalleled. Their step will inspire the cause of organ donation in the country.

Krishna Institute of Medical sciences, Transplant Surgeon Dr S Sahariah says. “Inspite of their trauma, the family was courageous enough to take such a decision. They offer all the organs. It’s remarkable."

For the Malik family it's a loss that's irreplaceable but even in their sorrow donating their son's organs seems to be their way of keeping Showrya's memories alive.
