Mirzapur: A family in Mirzapur has been pleading for euthanasia for their four sons.
Everyday is just another day in in the lives of the four young boys who wish to live no further. The four brothers were detected with muscular dystrophy at the age of five. Today, Durgesh is 22 years of age, Sarvesh is 18, Brijesh is 13 and Sushil is 10 - all of them crippled and paralysed below the neck.
Even at the age of 13, Brijesh knows that his condition will not get any better and looking at his elder brothers he's aware that with time it will only worsen.
But playing is an impossible dream. Even for basic needs like moving, bathing, eating, they are dependent on their parents.
Their father says that he took them to many hospitals but it did not help. "I even sold away all my property, shop, but still nothing. Ultimately, with no option left, I wrote to the President," said their father.
Unable to bear the suffering of their children Jeet Narayan and his wife wrote to the President in 2008 pleading for euthanasia for their sons. They haven't yet got a reply, but in the meanwhile, they do small things to keep their children happy like a radio which is their only source of entertainment.
Little moments of joy, but a never ending suffering. Will euthanasia take away their lives or will it give them a death with dignity?
