Parents, school clash over fee hike issue

New Delhi: The fee hike in schools debate took a violent turn on Tuesday as clashes broke out between parents and management of Jindal Public School in South west Delhi when the school refused to hand out report cards till the tuition fee arrears were received.

Schools are demanding increased tuition fees to pay revised salaries to teachers under the sixth pay commission.

Parents argued that the school management hadn’t given them the time and had been asked to pay a lot at one go.

Local media crews that had landed to cover the parents' protest were reportedly manhandled by the school management. A reporter was allegedly beaten up and her camera unit smashed.

Journalist Sushma Tyagi said, “The school management started beating us and we haven’t done nothing why beating us.

Schools in Delhi are demanding a fee hike to pay revised salaries to teachers under the sixth pay Commission. Parents have been opposing this, some even filing a petition in the High Court.

With both parents and schools refusing to budge, the fee hike issue here can only escalate.
