New Delhi: Barely a fortnight after 55 Indian fliers complained of discrimination by the international airline Air France, another group of Indians have now complained about similar problems on another Air France flight.
There are serious questions being raised now about the French airline's alleged treatment of Indian passengers.
Jagdish Patankar and Gwyneth Alphonso are busy demanding an explanation for the poor treatment they got aboard an Air France flight recently.
They were traveling from Washington to Mumbai, but missed their connecting flight from Paris, after the take off from Washington was delayed.
Jagdish and Gwyneth allege Indian passengers were allegedly made to wait eight hours at the transfer lounge of the Charles De Gaulle airport while foreigners were provided accommodation.
“The worst thing was to see a 15-month-old girl and her grandmother not being given any consideration. We were given a sandwich and a bottle of water only after we asked for some food,” said Gwyneth.
“I saw that all the passengers from other countries, Europe, USA, they were given visas and put up in hotels quickly. Everyone dispersed and only a group of us 10 Indians remained,” narrated Patankar.
Jagdish and Gwyneth's ordeal brings a sense of deja-vu to Vineeta Sengupta who alleges that she went through a very similar experience, just two weeks ago, on another Air France flight.
“I don't know whether its racism but it is certainly discrimination and even our government needs to do something about this,” said Vineeta.
The international carrier though denies the allegation. It says, “Air France sincerely regrets the inconvenience incurred by passengers and especially the problems these passengers experienced at the airport with the visa formalities imposed by the French police, which were beyond the control of Air France.”
But the passengers are not mollified. They say they may take legal action against Air France. Two incidents of alleged discrimination in a row could seriously mar the image of the international carrier.
