Parliament live: Need reservation of women in the field of education, says JD(S)

New Delhi: 1:40 pm: JDS leader HD Devegowda said, "We need reservation for women in the field of education too. Lewd advertising should be curbed as it spoils the mind of young boys."

1:25 pm: CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta blamed the telecast of women in short clothes and cited IPL cheerleaders for crime against women in the country. He added, "I appeal to the government to at least stop all this."

He also said that he agreed that the Indian society was a male dominated society and this had to change.

The Lok Sabha took up the issue of safety of women in India on the occasion of International Women\'s Day on Friday.

1:10 pm: Speaking on women's rights, Trinamool Congress leader Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar said, "I appeal to the nation to respect women. Men can never be mothers and we forget that."

12:55 pm: JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav welcomed the suggestions given by the Leader of the Opposition and agreed that there should be dedicated discussions on women issues in the House more often. He said the society is to be blamed for the plight of women in the country.

12:48 pm: Akali Dal leader Harsimrat Kaur requested the Speaker to hold special days to discuss women centric issues more often in the Lok Sabha. "There is no fear of committing crimes against women, there is no fear of the law," she said.

12:30 pm: Congress leader Girija Vyas called for unity in Parliament to form a strong legislation to deal with crimes against women.

12:15 pm: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said, "Discussing women's issues in the House and then forgetting them has become a trend."

Sushma Swaraj also quoted newspapers in the House highlighting the plight of women in the country.

12:05 pm: The Lok Sabha took up the issue of safety of women in India on the occasion of International Women's Day on Friday. Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar said, "The empowerment of women has to be social, economic and political."
