Genoa, who have undergone a revival under Davide Ballardini, had the better of the chances, with Andrea Bertolacci particularly dangerous.
Bertolacci forced two good saves out of Parma goalkeeper Nicola Pavarini in the first half, and hit the woodwork twice in quick succession after the interval.
