New Delhi: Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister Ram Vilas Paswan is also in charge of the Ministry of Steel in the UPA Government.
There is proof that the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has been footing Paswan's personal expenses.
A letter written by Officer on Special Duty assigned to Paswan, R P Rathi, to the SAIL Chairman, asks the PSU to pay two bills for Paswan's mobile amounting to over Rs 77,000.
Another letter suggests SAIL also purchased a mobile phone worth Rs 24,000 for Paswan's Additional Private Secretary Yogendra Paswan. But Paswan denies all knowledge of these transactions.
"The accusations about the mobile bill are false," said Paswan.
SAIL also hired a chartered plane for Rs 1.5 lakh, for Paswan's recent trip to Jaipur.
Some documents also suggest that the PSU spent nearly Rs 1 crore on the wedding of Paswan's daughter.
The letter written by Paswan's APS to the SAIL Chairman, lists out the requirements for the marriage. This included the construction of a temporary shed, paving the house with new tiles and the construction of a visitor's room.
"I am a public representative. If someone comes to my place shouldn't we make new room for the guest?" said Paswan.
Some documents also show that SAIL routinely meets the bills for diesel supplied to Paswan's official residence. SAIL even pays the salaries of two private security guards posted there – amounting to Rs 12,000.
The company also spends Rs 18,000 thousand for maintaining the two gardens in the house.
