Patiala: A 10th class student Manpreet Kaur was set on fire by three women who suspected the girl of stealing a mobile phone. Kaur suffered 85 per cent burns and is in a critical condition in Patiala's Rajendra Nagar hospital.
The girl has denied that she had stolen any mobile phone. When the matter came before the panchayat, the girl's family members said if they would buy a new mobile and give it to three women. But the three women were not satisfied and when Manpreet Kaur was alone the all three - Taranpreet, Veerpal and Sarabjit - entered her house, poured kerosene on her and then set her on fire.
Manpreet's father Durjan Singh accused the trio, who are his neighbours, of setting her daughter on fire when he along with his wife and other children was not at home. He said that the three had accused her daughter of stealing a mobile phone a week ago and after the matter was brought before the panchayat, he was ready to buy a new instrument and give it to the trio.
