Patna (Bihar): Believe it or not, Home Guards serving in the Bihar Police are replacing oxen in the fields, and they are following instructions to flatten fields and prepare them for a Republic day function.

And needless to say, they aren't happy doing this.

Says Spokesperson for Home Guards, S K Mishra, "It's inhuman and we condemn it. The officers responsible must be arrested and FIRs must be filed against them."

Adds Commandant Rana Amrendra Kumar, " If it is true then we condemn it."

Home Guard jawans in Bihar are kept on a temporary roster and are paid a daily allowance of Rs 70. They are supposed to carry out instructions of their seniors who reportedly ordered them to replace oxen and rollers on the field.

Now the Bihar Policemen's Association is also protesting this treatment of the jawans.

Says State President, Policemen's Association, Jitendra Narayan Singh, "The officers behind this inhuman act must be suspended."

And the Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has promised action. He has sadi that an inquiry will be ordered into the matter. Hopefully, that will make the taskmasters sit up and take note.
