Mumbai: Paulo Coelho’s best selling book, The Alchemist is all set to take a centre stage when the stage version hits the theatres in September.
Tom alter, who is playing the lead role in the play said, “We have done just one dress rehearsal so far, the final product is still a long way away."
“All the lines in the play are taken directly from the book. There are no lines in the play that are not in the book,” said Alter.
Producer Ashvin Gidwani who has plans to stage the play in English, Hindi, Marathi and Gujrati across India, had to buy the rights for the stage adaptation from the author.
“They are very particular and we had to follow certain guidelines but the beauty is that they have given us the creative freedom. They said what you interpret from the book is what you need to do,” said a beaming Gidwani.
The stage version comes along with an exhibition by photographers inspired by the philosophy of The Alchemist.
The The Alchemist has sold millions of copies worldwide, and has been translated into 61 languages. However, the book has not been able to impress every one in the universe.
Even Tom Alter thought that the book was certainly not the favourite among the books that he has read.
